Claudeforce vs. Agentforce: What Changed and What Didn't

Claudeforce and Agentforce aren't competing products, and you don't choose between them. Agentforce is Salesforce's platform for building and running AI agents. Claudeforce is the August 2026 partnership between Salesforce and Anthropic that makes Claude the default reasoning model inside that platform and opens two new doors into it: a Salesforce plugin inside Claude and Claude as the default model in Slack. The fact the headlines skip is that Claude has been a foundation model inside Agentforce since late 2025, so for existing Agentforce customers, less changed last month than the announcement suggests. What changed is access and governance. (New to all of this? Start with our plain-English guide to what Claudeforce is.)

What is Agentforce?

Agentforce is the layer of Salesforce where companies build AI agents: a service agent that resolves routine cases, a sales agent that qualifies inbound leads, an internal agent that answers policy questions. You define what the agent can do, connect it to your data, and it acts inside the boundaries Salesforce enforces. Under the hood, an agent needs a reasoning model to think with, and Salesforce's Atlas Reasoning Engine can draw on more than one.

What does Claudeforce add to Agentforce?

Three things, in descending order of novelty.

The biggest is the Salesforce-in-Claude plugin: 37 prebuilt sales skills (meeting prep, deal health review, pipeline review) that your team uses from inside Claude rather than inside Salesforce. One admin connects it for the whole team, permissions are scoped centrally, and every action respects your Salesforce business rules. This is a new way in that didn't exist before, and it's the piece worth watching, with open beta expected in September 2026.

Second, Claude became the default model for Agentforce Vibes and Agentforce Coworker, and the partnership formalized Claude running through Amazon Bedrock inside Salesforce's trust boundary for regulated industries. Default status matters commercially, but functionally it upgrades a relationship that already existed.

Third, Claude became the default model in Slack, which folds governed Salesforce actions into the tool many teams treat as their real front office.

What Claudeforce doesn't change about Agentforce

Your existing agents keep running. Your permission model still decides what any agent or plugin can see and do. Your validation rules, flows, and triggers still fire on every write, whether a human or Claude made it. And the platform still supports multiple models in Atlas, so Claude being the default is a default, not a lock-in. If your Agentforce deployment worked in July, it works now.

What Claudeforce means for existing Agentforce customers

Nothing breaks, and two things deserve attention. The plugin gives your team a second surface where CRM actions can happen, so the permission audit you did (or skipped) at Agentforce rollout is worth repeating before anyone connects Claude: agents and plugins inherit whatever your profiles allow, including the over-generous ones. And the pricing is consumption-based on both sides, so a team enthusiastically running pipeline reviews in Claude is a new token line item. Start read-only, measure a month, then widen.

Should you start with Agentforce or the Claude plugin?

The announcement changed your entry point. A year ago, getting value from AI in Salesforce meant designing and building an agent. Now the prebuilt skills mean a sales team can get meeting prep and pipeline answers without building anything, which makes "turn on the plugin for one team" the cheapest first experiment available. The prerequisite hasn't moved, though: these tools read your CRM, so the state of your data decides whether they impress or embarrass. Our AI agents guide covers that readiness work, and it applies unchanged here.

Claudeforce vs. Agentforce: the bottom line

Claudeforce is a formalization plus a distribution play. The model inside Agentforce is the one that was already there; what's new is that your team can now reach Salesforce from Claude and Slack under central governance. Existing Agentforce customers should audit permissions and budget tokens before enabling the new surfaces. Companies that were waiting for a lower-effort way in just got one. Frequently asked questions

Is Agentforce being replaced by Claudeforce?

No. Agentforce is the platform and it continues; Claudeforce is the partnership that changes which model powers it by default and adds new ways to reach it.

Do I have to use Claude now?

No. Atlas supports multiple reasoning models. Claude is the default for Vibes and Coworker, and defaults can be changed.

We run Agentforce today. Does anything break?

No. Existing agents, automations, and permissions carry on unchanged. The new plugin and Slack surfaces are additions you choose to enable, and each one deserves a permission review first.

Which should we pilot first, an Agentforce agent or the Claude plugin?

For a sales-led team, the plugin is the cheaper experiment: prebuilt skills, one admin connection, read-only to start. Building a custom agent still makes sense when the workflow you want isn't one of the 37 skills.

What does the Claude plugin cost?

Consumption-based token pricing with no published rate card yet. Bound the pilot, track a month of real usage, then decide on the rollout.
